My triumphant return to the pool

Just got back from the pool.  Wow, it has been like a year and a bit since I swam last and it showed big time, ha ha.  Oh well, I had no pressure, my three goals today for the swim were to #1 remember my lock combination(check), #2 do some swimming(check), and #3 although not as important I wanted to swim 1k meters(check) although I nearly quit after 500m.  Nope, no joke I nearly bailed.  But after some 50s(after 500m all I could do is 50m without stopping) I went and got a pull bouy and finished it off with that.  Ahhhh the pull bouy, like old friends, lol.  Think I'll be swimming at city pools two evenings a week to start, if anyone cares to meet up let me know.

In other news my cycling and running are doing really well.  Did 20k the other day in a record time and my heart rate stayed low in Z2 where it should.  I was really pumped, too bad I don't have a race to show off my foot speed.  Someone mentioned the last chance half, hmmmm I'll think about that one.  The cycling is improving too, I'm riding with some roadies a few times a week and last weekend I did a couple longer rides as well.  I ride with a power meter on my tt bike, wow that's a big eye opener.  So much to learn, you never realize how much the power spikes up and down.  It's really gonna teach me to ride with a smoother power stroke.  These rides I do with two friends are interesting.  It's quite different as they're always playing cat and mouse games, hammering up hills and doing really hard tempo sections that has me panting, legs screaming at me.  It's good after all it's tits(time in the saddle) but I wonder how applicable to tt'ing it is.  Or maybe it's something us triathletes need more of?

Fernie Half Marathon, Oct 2. I'll see YOU there. Right?

Morning swim = good.
Evening swim = no sleep.
Easy choice.

The bike stuff sounds like it's good for fitness, if you survive the ride. But how does it prepare you for the long steady ride in triathlon?

I checked out the race, looks like a good one. I'll think about it. As I swim more I'm sure I'll have to do some of it in the mornings, but I'm def. the opposite as you Keith. As for the cycling, about the same as a 400m intervals help for marathon training. Not directly, but the hard 1-2 min durations will make me stronger for 10 - 20 min intervals, and if I'm stronger on those that'll increase the power I can sustain over an hour, etc. ha ha Julie(I think my wife would have a heart attack, she knows how bad my memory really is)
